Day 7: Prince of Peace
Isaiah 9:6d — “And His name will be called… Prince of Peace.” (NASB)
The final name completes the prophecy: Sar Shalom — “Prince of Peace.” The word sar means “ruler” or “captain,” and shalom goes far beyond “peace” as we think of it. It means wholeness, harmony, completeness — life the way it was meant to be under God’s blessing.
Jesus doesn’t just bring peace; He is peace (Ephesians 2:14). At His birth, angels declared, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased” (Luke 2:14). Through His death and resurrection, He reconciled us to God, making peace through the blood of His cross (Colossians 1:20).
In our contemporary world "filled with noise and conflict," this Prince still reigns. The world seeks peace by removing problems; Christ offers peace by ruling hearts. This profound, internal peace is a spiritual garrison, described as "the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:7). It is a peace found not in understanding our circumstances but in resting in the sovereignty of the Sar Shalom, the divine captain who brings shalom to the human soul.
Reflection: Peace is not the absence of trouble — it’s the presence of Christ. Let the Prince of Peace rule your heart this Christmas and beyond.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, Prince of Peace, rule in my heart today. Calm my fears, heal my conflicts, and help me live as an ambassador of Your peace. Amen.
