Psalms 4-6

I want to focus on Psalm 4 today. The reason why I want to focus in on this chapter is that David and the people of Israel seem to be going through a tough situation as a nation. There is some natural calamity going on, probably a drought, which has brought on a failure of crops.

David, as the leader and shepherd of God's people, in verse 2, encourages the nation of Israel not to run after false gods, or deities,  but to trust in the Lord their God and to walk in obedience to Him. This is seen in verse 5 when the psalm says "offer right sacrifices and put your trust in the Lord".

David says that he has more joy and peace even in the midst of a drought than those who have an abundance of wine and crops, but no hope in God.

In the midst of a pandemic, our hope, joy, and peace may be shaken. But, when our hope, joy, and peace lie in the God who holds us in the palm of His hand, in the God who is sovereign over all things, and not in our circumstances...we will not be shaken!

Trust in God today and live at peace with an abundance of joy!
