Psalms 7-9
Have you taken a moment lately to just stop and be in awe of who God is? In Psalm 8:1 David says, "O lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens..." I imagine David in this psalm stepping outside, looking up at the starts just in awe of who God is and marveling at his creation. He goes on to say in verse 3 and verse 4 that when he looks up at the moon and the stars, he is blown away that God could be "mindful of man."
David then goes on to reflect on all of the things that God has given man rule over; sheep and oxen and the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens and fish of the sea. Then David does something amazing - he ends this psalm the same way he started. He says again in verse 9, "O Lord, Our Lord how majestic is your name in all the earth!"
I love that even though David recognizes all of the power and responsibility that man has been given by God; we can earn money, build cities, tame wild animals, grow crops, build nations, he is still humbled by how awesome God is. That God who created man still desires a relationship with us!! In the end, David doesn't praise man for all of our majesty, he praises God for how majestic HE is!
Take a minute and look up at the stars of the sky. Remember who is in control and how much the God of the heavens and the universe, who can seem so far away, still loves and cares for you deeply!
